Tuesday 12th March - walk **** – The Dip to Felixtowe Ferry – cloudy then rain all day.

A windsurfing mate messaged on whatsapp yesterday saying about a mega low tide around 6.30 today so as it was forecast to rain all day, Mag and I decided to get up early to check it out and hope for abit of a sunrise too? Leavinng home at 6.10 we drove down to the pier and yes the tide was already pretty low with the rocks out by Felixstowe town hall where I got my first pics, there was even a glimpse of red in the sky inn what was otherwise pretty gloomy but at least it was dry. Driving towards The Dip the shingle banks were well out and we got our first sighting of Walton fort just showing above the sea, fort makes it sound grander than it is, its just three lumps of rock which has caught many a windsurfer out with several fins lost here, I for one have hit it a few times! Parking at The Dip we set off our our walk at 6.30 heading towards the Ferry, just by the beach huts we follow the coastline, we are walking well out to sea now with the tide very low, I should have put my wellies on as Mag was having fun paddling in the very shallow water. The tide was still going out as we reached the River Deben which was extremely low as a paddle boarder set off to explore, we even got a very brief sighting of the sun through the cloud. Then it was past the Martello tower to the sailing club where e turned left to see the yellow boat wreck, really high and dry in a sea of mud and back through the boatyard taking the usual pics of the boats on their moorinngs:) The it was back along the beach past the rock defennces and back up onto the path across the golf course, meeting an old friend for a chat before continuing back to the van getting tired now, we had been out for an hour and a half walking over three miles and were in need of out breakfast. The rain arrived on the drive home and stayed for most of the day! Home for breakfast and exercises before heading to an old friend who we had to take to town in her wheelchair in the light rain, then it was time for a cuppa and cake, another top day despite the poor weather. There is a run of mild breezy days coming so hope to get out windsurfing:)
